So, at work today I did a grand total of 3 things- wrote up my Oppo review of the new Mercedes; spent 90 minutes meeting with someone on transitioning my current responsibilities; and packed up my desk!

Whoo hoo - summer off, maybe more!!

Backstory - about a year ago, my company decided to sell off its North American business, after which it would just be a European business. In the fall, I took a promotion into that business, in large part to help with the sale. Well, that sale closed in May to a competitor, and as I expected all along, they have their own people doing what I do, so they don’t really need me. I’ll mostly be on vacation the next couple of weeks, then officially unemployed.

Note - for a whole host of reasons, I am VERY happy about all of this, so no ‘sorry to hear that’, mmmkay? LOL. I’m pretty lucky - and they’ve treated me well for being a short timer under their ownership.

So, more Oppo time (and more importantly, more time with my 2 year old!)

Best summer I had was last year when I was laid off for 4 weeks. I had the hammock in the living room and didn’t give a duck. I got caught up on TV. I napped a lot and had a vacation during the summer (hasn’t happened since 1994). It was glorious!

After my stint of unemployment, I’m not sure how I feel about congratulating someone on unemployment. Although, it seems like you knew this was coming so I’m sure you’ve got a plan. Getting let go was probably a really good thing for me.

I’ve basically known that this day was coming for a year now, and I’ve actually been working towards it. For reasons I won’t go into, I tried my best to encourage it the last month or two.

I was high enough in the company, and knowledgeable enough about the fact that I essentially took a *temporary* (but critical) position last fall, that I had my ducks lined up in terms of severance etc that this is all okay.

I’m not really even looking yet, though I’ll start dabbling in it soon. Even with that, I’ve already had one interview, and some good connections to help. I truly don’t want to start again until fall at the earliest.

Nice!! I was off most of 2010 after my employer went belly up - I’m in a better financial position now than I was then, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it, traveled, enjoyed Chicago, etc etc etc.

My previous employer basically paid me to be off for 3 months. I got the new job pretty quickly (2 fish on my hook). So, for those last couple of months I had double income. Gotta make that $$.
